Conscious Sedation

Sedation dentistry has become a very easy way to accommodate those people who have put off dentistry because of fear or anxiety.

We simply give you a pill along with nitrous oxide (happy gas).

Dr. Allen is certified by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners to administer Enteral Conscious Sedation. By taking a pill, you can have a "twilight sleep" that allows you to sleep during your dental appointment while remaining alert enough to respond to questions. It is a similar type of pre-medication given before medical surgery. It also allows you to get an entire mouth full of dental needs done in a morning or afternoon visit that might otherwise take several appointments to accomplish.

Benzodiazepines(Halcion, Versed, Valium) are very useful as they induce sleep and are easily reversable with another drug - Romazicon. We use Halcion because it comes in a pill - you are given a prescription - so bring it with you. No Halcion or drugs are kept at Dr. Allen's office!

During the procedure we monitor your vital signs - heart rate, blood pressure, and blood oxygen level - with a machine that constantly updates and prints out your data.

The many advantages of conscious sedation include less time off from work, having more work done in fewer visits, and above all, providing you with a healthy smile and a pleasant experience at the dentist office!
